CATN8, Bitcoin Phone and TKS Pnt march into 4th Bitcoin SV Hackathon final

The three finalists for the 4th Bitcoin SV Hackathon have finally been revealed. After 10 grueling weeks for hundreds of developers, CATN8, Bitcoin Phone, and TKS Pnt have emerged as the three best projects from the Hackathon. The teams behind the three will now present their projects to an elite judges’ panel at CoinGeek New York on October 5-7.

The 4th Bitcoin SV Hackathon kicked off on June 14 and attracted participants from across the world, each with his eyes fixed firmly on the $100,000 prize, payable in BSV. Participants had to develop applications that promote peer-to-peer Bitcoin use, with features such as SPV Channels and Merchant API (mAPI) at the center of the iteration.

A week ago, Bitcoin Association announced the shortlist for the six projects that had made it into the semifinals. In addition to the three finalists, pay-to-order SPV wallet Alien Wallet; trustless fitness competition application BitCommit; and reservation and payment validation wallet TimeKet also made it into the penultimate stage.

The first finalist, Bitcoin Phone, is an application that broadcasts voice data over the Bitcoin network. Leveraging the non-finality of the nSequence to enable real-time data streaming, it was developed by Joe Thomas, a Canadian developer.

In a demo for the app, Thomas summed it up, “Just like IP and voice over IP works, this does the same exact thing, but on top of Bitcoin. This is voice over Bitcoin.”

CATN8 also made the cut. The online video platform was developed by Dave Foderick and Marcel Gruber who describes it as “a company that embraces the peer-to-peer nature of Bitcoin as a superior transport mechanism to enable secure and private forms of communication and content delivery.”

“It’s a monetized media player for video, audio or gaming that can be embedded into any website or platform,” Gruber, a full stack web developer, added.

TKS Pnt was the third application that impressed the judges and marched into the finals. Developed by Japanese developer Meta Taro, TKS Pnt enables point tokenization for both the customers and the merchants.

The three will now battle to take home $50,000 for the top spot, with the second and third walking away with $30,000 and $20,000 respectively at CoinGeek New York which takes place on October 5-7.
