The era of IPv6 is upon us, and as the world adopts this new and advanced version of the Internet, India has emerged as the global leader in IPv6 adoption. Dr. Satya Gupta, the chairman of the Bharat IPv6 Forum, believes that India will cement its position as the global IPv6 leader, boosted by enabling regulations and the world’s second-highest population.

Gupta, who is also the chairman of the Blockchain Productivity Forum, was at the Enterprise Utility Blockchain Summit (EUBS) in Bangalore, where he shared the stage with Dr. Craig Wright and Latif Ladid.

Speaking to CoinGeek’s Claire Celdran, Gupta pointed out that India’s rise as an IPv6 superpower has resulted from positive regulations, private sector initiatives, and a large population. India’s government has already set aggressive targets for each telecom and ISP operator to achieve universal IPv6 connectivity. In addition, the government has launched education initiatives to boost IPv6 adoption across India.

In an even more ambitious move, the Indian government is weighing setting up its DNS root server to better serve the 1.4 billion Indians. Currently, there are only 13 DNS root servers globally due to Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) limitations. Of the 13, 10 are in the U.S., and two are in Europe, with APAC only getting one despite being home to over 60% of the world population, which Gupta thinks is unfair. IPv6 will finally right this wrong, he says.

Gupta further pointed out that blockchain and IPv6 are a perfect match. With no limitations on addresses, every device can be directly connected to the Internet and, coupled with an infinitely scaling blockchain network, IPv6 and Bitcoin SV can finally restore the original end-to-end vision of the Internet.

“There’s a great fit between these two next-generation technologies—Bitcoin SV and IPv6,” Gupta remarked.
